Project description
The Umbrella Facility for Gender Equality (UFGE) is a multidonor facility established in 2012 to strengthen awareness, knowledge, and capacity for gender-informed policy making. The UFGE is a multi-donor trust fund designed to enable the road-testing of innovative solutions to close key gender gaps and generate rigorous evidence of what works and what does not. The UFGE promotes results by equipping policy makers and development experts with data, knowledge, and evidence. The facility allocates grants on a programmatic basis, supporting individual initiatives that clearly align with the objectives of the WBG Gender Strategy and interlink to form a comprehensive approach to gender equality.
The UFGE supports work across all four pillars of the WBGs Gender Strategy closing first generation gaps in health and education, creating more and better jobs, closing gender gaps in ownership and control over physical and financial assets, and enhancing womens voice and leadership in sector governance and through prevention and response to gender-based violence.

Project evaluation
Evaluation source
Annual reports are published to monitor the overall progress of the UFGE. This outlines high level outputs, case studies of notable projects, and the programme financials.
Evaluation is a key component of the funding programme, given the programme's focus on developing and disseminating evidence-based solutions. The facilitys funding structure includes support for: (a) inferential research and analytics on cross-cutting issues; (b) impact evaluations and pilots through a federation of Regional Gender Innovation Labs; (c) innovations in data collection, curation, and dissemination; and (d) evidence for the private sector on the links between womens economic equality and business outcomes, and practical solutions they can put in place. Between 2013 and 2020, 184 studies have been published, 131 impact evaluations funded and 30 private sector case studies published.
