Project description
MDF's work with Mahanaim Garments focuses on starting commercial garment manufacturing in Timor-Leste and creates skill development opportunities and stable employment for rural and urban labourers, most of whom are women. MDF supported
the company in recruiting skilled professionals from overseas to help in the areas of product design, cutting, worker training and quality control, among others.
From the Market Development Facility website: "At MDF, we use a Market Systems Development (MSD) approach to promote sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries. We connect individuals, businesses, governments and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth. The economic empowerment of women is central to our work".
