Project description
Thousands of migrant women from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam work as beer promoters in clubs where they are exposed to unwanted touching, coerced sex and sex work. HIV is high in this population (CARE Cambodia 2005, Kim et al 2005). This grant will support a meeting of academics, civil society organizations, government officials, community members and representatives of the beer industry to identify key research priorities with respect to the sexual and reproductive health issues facing beer promotion women in Southeast Asia. The meeting will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in October 2009. It will be followed by focus groups with beer promotion women in the four countries under study to validate and modify the agenda as required.
